PREMIERE : September 2015
How can tradition and heritage be re-evaluated in different cultural groups? What stories do we tell and why? „On Fire,“ premiered in Johannesburg in February 2015, is the name of Constanza Macras‘ new piece and examines how traditions and rituals look in urban centers today. For this, Macras has brought together an international cast of dancers, performers and musicians from her company Dorky Park and from South Africa, and works with photographs by African-American artist Ayana V. Jackson. „On Fire“ reflects on the artistic deconstruction of colonial and patriarchal images of the „other“ in post-apartheid times with a lot of humor, music and energetic choreography. In her new show, Argentine choreographer and director Constanza Macras explores urban traces of colonial heritage.
