In 2003, Constanza Macras made the dancers of her company and the children of Neukölln the stars of an evening. „Scratch Neukölln“ was a delightful party and an intelligent play about life abroad.
A group of people – some older, some younger, dancers, children and young people – meet in Neuklln. They have come to start anew. They want to escape the past, to erase it. No one knows who they used to be, where they come from, what language they speak. Neuklln is full of people like them. Sometimes they don’t know that they all have the same issues and the same intentions. They will start again where they started before. With a new language. And with it come new stories and with these stories the past begins anew.
The kids of Neuklln bring their language, their CDs that are passed on as pirated copies of pirated copies, their movements that have travelled from street to street, from flat to flat via satellite dish. All these copies of copies are copied and rewritten each time: To start from scratch…
